Duels arnt about skill man or beating the other person into the ground, we all know that certain builds would fail misrably at 1v1 battles but be the backbone of an 8v8
Sure some people will take it that way...Ignore them, you dont have to duel them.
I myself want to be able to duel becuase in other games their have been so many times when my friends and I will just sit there testing things out or just fighting back and forth because were to lazy to go do a mission or we dont have enough time. I think it would offer another demision to the game for many people.

There are so many more better things you could be doing then 1v1. It just doesn't make sense why you should do it.

There may be better things, but what if someone people think that 1v1 is the better thing? Does it hurt you in any way if it's in the game Kiwi?
Personnaly I would like to use it some, but it wouldn't be a substitute in anyways for GvG, tombs, or even Galdiator's Arena.

Yes definately, it would likely be used more for testing builds rather than serious dueling, some of us have builds that are geared towards destroying a certain profession and this would be a great way to test it, get someone in your guild to duel with and it allows them to give you feedback about your build. And for serious duels, a 1v1 with W/Mo or Mesmer vs Mesmer battle would be great to do.
The option of dueling with henchies could be added in as well, they automatically accept any duels and the AI could pretty much be the same as it is now.
No rewards would be given for winning, for obvious reasons.

It will produce spam like, "Anyone wanna do a 1v1 match with me?"
And anyways, the devs should focus on more important things. Like fixing chat.

You make a good point Kiwi, but if they contain it in a designated duel area than the spam would only be there.

I still think people would spam in cities. Because I think very few people would use 1v1 anyways, so they'd spam in cities where there are more people.
Fix the chat, then I'm OK with it. Otherwise, it's a big no no.

That works to Black Arrow, as long as you can challenge duels at your guild hall as well

1vs1 Duels should be supported in my opinion. It is an honorable match up.. heck guild leader could even 1v1 for pink slips to their guild halls that's a joke. But it would open a whole new avenue of gameplay without making a serious change to the game itself.

Well no matter, I want to see other things like DP gone from pets, fixed chat, smarter npcs, being able to tame bulls and making the Arena better.

The spam issue is a concern, yet I think that you can't get away from it. You get spammed for joining groups, trading goods, general posts etc. Its a part of GW life it seems. I personally think it would be fun to challenge fellow guild mates. Perhaps this function is best left accessible in the guild hall, to avoid the spam problem.
Call it mutual consent.

I think a good way to fight your guild would be having practice guild fights again'st your members, and/or bein able to choose who you fight in Gladiators Arena.

I like the randomness of the Arena, but maybe a pick your own team 4v4 place somewhere else (or you can either have a team for the Arena or just go in by yourself and get randomly assigned like it is now). And practice guild fights would be really cool to test out skills for builds and what not. Like create a team build and an anti-build and see how strong they are to eachother so you know where the weaknesses and strengths of your build lie.

The one thing that both players and developers would need to keep in mind if a dueling system were implemented, is that the game is not balanced for it and isn't meant to be. In other words, complaining that your character is underpowered in 1v1 is not legitimate grounds for a buff to your profession or a nerf to another one. It's there for fun and screwing around. Nothing more.
Other than this, I see absolutely no reason not to add it. Whether everyone would use it or not doesn't matter. Those who don't like it, don't have to take advantage of it. Most of the arguments against it (spam, balance, etc.) seem, to me, to be pretty weak.
I'd do it by simply allowing people to challenge others to duels when not in town. If you want to fight, form a party and step outside. There could be an "allow duels" toggle, so that you wouldn't recieve challenges if you found them annoying.
Seriously, people, if you don't want to duel other players then you don't have to. But just because you wouldn't use something is not a reason to leave it out of the game. I doubt I'd ever touch a duel, myself, but from what I've seen, a hell of a lot of people want the option. It's a minor feature, it hasn't destroyed any major commercial titles yet, and it won't destroy this one. The argument that the devs should work on something "more important" is asinine. What's important varies from person to person, and there are a lot of different tastes among those in the GW community. When someone says "they should be working on something more important" what they really mean is, "they should be working on something that I like better."

I could see this being useful for testing certain combos and such- like does life bond trigger balthazar's spirit and stuff like that, but I don't see how it would generally be all that fun. Skills aren't anywhere near balanced 1vs1- in all actuality, a well-built mesmer would win every battle. I guess it could be an okay addition for people who really want to have it, but I'd prefer that the developers spent their time working on more content for the game rather than overly unbalanced play types.... skills are unbalanced in the 4vs4 arena, horribly unbalanced in 2vs2(very old arena setup), and unbelievably so for 1vs1.

The fact that it's not balanced doesn't matter one bit. A lot of people want it, and it would probably be relatively simple to implement, so give it to them. I really don't understand why just having something like this in the game bothers so many people. It doesn't have to affect you. You don't have to use it.

Yes, but not for the obvious reason -- yes for training. When you have a guild, you want to see how the applicant responds under pressure. The Tombs is too messy to properly evaluate someone, and PvE isn't exactly high-pressure. Alot of times in GvG you are one-on-one, so this allows you to do some nice praticing; for example, see how long it takes for your newly-built warrior to clean-out a healer.
